Hollywood isn’t the easiest place to survive. You can fade out of the spotlight just as quickly as you’re brought into it. One day an actor can be the most desired and asked to star in multiple films at once. Then before they know it they’re struggling to get any role. Here’s a list of 12 stars that just can’t seem to catch a moment.
Catherine Zeta Jones
Catherine Zeta Jones gained fame from her roles in Ocean’s Twelve, High Fidelity, and The Legend of Zorro. She also won the role for Best Supporting Actress in 2002 for her role in Chicago. However, she’s recently done some unsuccessful movies which seem to have set her back. Hopefully the right role is just around the corner for her.
Due to Mel Gibson’s numerous racist rants during his 2010 breakdown, he hasn’t been able to land himself a decent role since. This has been a surprise to many since the actor had such success with films like Braveheart and Lethal Weapon. We’re not sure how he’ll ever find a way back on the screen.
We know and love Macaulay Culkin from the ‘90s movie Home Alone. He was a huge success as a child actor, but as he got older he faded more and more out of the spotlight. Maybe one of these days he’ll land himself a good role!
Freddie Prinze Jr.
Freddie Prinze Jr. blew up from his starring roles in She’s All That, I Know What You did Last Summer, and Scooby Doo. After that who couldn’t land himself a decent role again. He made a few flops and now we rarely hear his name.
We’ve always loved Cameron Diaz and we always will! She was one of the biggest actresses in Hollywood from her lead roles in There’s Something About Mary, Being John Malkovich, and Shrek. She had steady work for years up until a short while ago when she accepted a role in Bad Teacher. Since this R-rated comedy was released she hasn’t been cast.
Jessica Biel used to be a big hit, but she lost out on two major roles as Catwoman and Fantine in Les Miserables. Both roles went to Anne Hathaway and Fantine even won her the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress. Biel is a mom now so maybe she isn’t ready to make her way back on to the big screen.
The Mummy star used to be very popular because of the film franchise. However, after accepting some rather questionable roles he hasn’t been able to get much work since. He actually did a pretty good job in Journey to the Centre of the Earth, but ended up replaced for the second and we haven’t really seen him since.
Hilary Swank won herself an Oscar for her role in Million Dollar Baby. Other than that she also has a few other successful achievements, but the last time we saw her was in 2007 for P.S I Love You. She hasn’t really gotten much attention since but maybe someday she’ll find something.
After a few poor roles, we haven’t seen much of Eddie Murphy. Hopefully it’s not too late for him but regardless, he will always be one of our favorites from the 80s and 90s.
We all cheered for team Jacob when Taylor Lautner was one of the stars in the Twilight saga. Unfortunately he hasn’t really been able to separate himself from the film. He has some roles that also didn’t to as well as anticipated. Apparently he is demanding far too much to take on a role and people don’t feel his skills are worth that much. Maybe he’ll get a reality check soon and perk up his career.
Toby Maguire became a huge hit from the Spiderman franchise, but just as much as it helped him it also ruined him. After the third film bomb so did his career. He hasn’t landed himself a role since.
Katherine Heigl’s name grew from her role as Izzy Stevens on Grey’s Anatomy. She even won an Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2007. When she found out she was nominated the year after, she removed her own name explaining that she didn’t feel her performance deserved it. This move didn’t work well in her favor and she hasn’t had a role since. Time will tell if she can find her way back.
